This policy sets out how RecipePlot decides what to publish, how its content is checked, and how it keeps advertising separate from editorial content.

### Reader questions first

Topics come from what home cooks search for and ask.

### Sources named

Any number that matters for safety links to the guidance it comes from.

### No paid placement

Brands cannot buy a mention, a ranking or a change to an answer.

### Dated updates

Pages show when they were last updated, and significant changes are noted.

## What gets published

Topics are chosen from the questions home cooks search for most often: the dishes they want to make, the ingredients they run out of, and the things that go wrong. A dish gets one complete page, with its common variations inside it, rather than a separate thin page for every wording of the same search.

## Voice and claims

- Recipes and answers are written in the third person and explain their reasoning.

- Specific figures, such as temperatures, storage times and amounts, are either sourced or calculated.

- Where guidance differs between sources, the page says so and uses the more cautious figure.

- No fabricated experiences, testimonials, reviews or quotes.

- No medical, allergy or weight-loss advice. Pages that touch on these point to a qualified professional.

## Sources

| Subject | Primary sources |
| --- | --- |
| Safe cooking temperatures and handling | USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service, FoodSafety.gov |
| Storage times | USDA FoodKeeper data, FDA consumer guidance |
| Allergens and labeling | U.S. Food and Drug Administration |
| Nutrition estimates | USDA FoodData Central |
| Home canning, where it appears | USDA Complete Guide to Home Canning, National Center for Home Food Preservation |

## Updates

Pages are reviewed when guidance changes or when readers report a problem. The date shown on a page is the date it was last meaningfully changed. Fixing a typo does not change it.

## Advertising and editorial separation

Advertising may appear on RecipePlot, and some links may earn a commission. Neither affects what a recipe calls for or what an answer says. The details are in the [advertising and affiliate disclosure](/affiliate-disclosure/).

**Corrections** follow a published process. See the [corrections policy](/corrections-policy/).
